Thoughts from Prescott Art Docent Volunteers
When I was asked to become a Prescott Art Docent,
my response
was, "I don't know anything about art." However, I do love to communicate with children; and Docents said they had an art history training program.
At that time, I didn't know a Picasso from a
Pissarro, couldn't pronounce one and couldn't spell the other.
Today I have a good, basic knowledge of art history and
art elements.
I can talk intelligently with anybody about
art. Best of all, when I go
into the classroom and present art topics to children, my enthusiasm grows and I can
see in their eyes that the enthusiasm is contagious.

Volunteering is one of the most rewarding occupations you can have, rewarding to you as well as the recipients of the hours you volunteer.
It is truly an added attraction for the volunteer can also learn a great deal.
When you join the Prescott Art docents (PAD) you are signing on to about the best History of Art course given anywhere. It is complete and the lecturers are fellow Art Docents. You will be aided along the way as each new Docent in Training has an experienced Docent as an advisor and helper.
After you "graduate" and get your "pin", you will be able to share your knowledge with Prescott and surrounding area school children and adult groups.
You will keep on learning from the fascinating speakers who will present lectures at the Monday morning PAD meetings.
You will become part of the PAD "family". They will cheer for you in good times and support you when your life doesn't go so well.
You will have wonderful caring friends and that is worth everything.
