Training to be a Prescott Art Docent is an exciting
opportunity for growth, friendships, and knowledge. |
- A Docent trainee develops a real understanding of how to look at all kinds of art, and how to appreciate, evaluate, and analyze the elements that went into the making of the art.
- Docent trainees prepare through special workshops and practice how to teach the elements of art and the principles of design to students in the classroom so that they too may look at art in new ways.
- No former knowledge of art is needed.

JOIN PAD!
A docent trainee first joins Prescott Art Docents by paying a membership fee of $30. Docent trainees also purchase our training notebook and our textbook, A History of Western Art by Laurie Schneider Adams. Then they are off to a new adventure!
ART HISTORY TRAINING
Prescott Art Docents' training program lasts seven months and provides an in-depth art history background with practical applications. September begins with orientations, a workshop on The Language of Art, and a slide presentation on prehistoric art. Every major art movement follows. Our training lecturers are very knowledgeable and model the techniques for involving the audience in the art. April ends with modern and contemporary art and several workshops on how to go into the classroom and make presentations exciting and beneficial for students.
MONDAY MORNING SCHEDULE
The main requirement for Docent trainees is to reserve Monday mornings for training from 8:30 – 10:00, enjoy hospitality time with all the docents in the art gallery from 10-10:30, and attend the art presentations in the PFAA theater from 10:30-11:45 with our guest speakers. Speakers include artists, curators, art critics, art professors, and knowledgeable docents from the Phoenix Art Museum. See our calendar for listing of art talks and training class topics.
