Magritte Art Project
René Magritte
Art Project

Focus:  Real and Unreal

Magritte painted everyday objects but turned them into something different, transforming them into magical images that make us stop and think.

Now you can have a chance to explore a surrealist technique by creating an imaginary world out of an everyday object such as this boot.

Gather the following materials for this art project:
          White construction paper, 9” x 12”
          Pencil
          Black thin line marker
          Colored pencils, or watercolors
          Scissors
          White glue

Process
Draw any object and then add smaller people or objects to make the main object look larger.   These smaller people or objects can be drawn, painted or use paper cut outs to be glued on to your art work.
Some suggestions are:
- Draw grapes to fill the paper, and then add little people climbing on the  grapes like they were a mountain

- Draw a snowman to fill the paper, and then add little spaceships and aliens exploring and investigating it

- Draw a donut to fill the paper, and then add little ice skater characters twirling and performing through the frosting

- Or use your imagination and draw what you like, and then add little people to your creation

You may want to color your picture with colored pencils or perhaps use watercolors.

When you are finished have fun showing your new creation to your family and friends.
