The talks listed below are available to the
community for any organization or group that is interested. These are
one hour slide or digital art presentations which can be modified to
your time needs.
We also have available a fifteen minute digital
presentation called
Docents Wear Many Hats. This talk introduces the
audience to what Prescott Art Docents do by showcasing hats in famous
paintings through the ages, for example Èdouard Manet's,
Boating.

A Concert of Art by Paul Klee and His
Contemporaries
This slide presentation with music reveals how Klee’s favorite classical
composers, Bach and Mozart, inspired and challenged him to create a layering of
themes, colors, and musical symbols in his art. Take a musical and
artistic journey into the changes and development of an artist’s creative force
in Opus I, II, and III of Klee’s work. (A digital presentation on art, history,

Cemetery Art: The Classical and the Quirky
Artworks in various forms appear as artistic memorials in both European and
American cemeteries. Symbolism is discussed with a handout on symbols and
their meaning. The focus of the presentation is not on the famous, royal tombs
or usual religious imagery but looks at the excellent, the unusual, the visually

Prehistoric Art: Artistic Expressions
Since the dawn of time, man has had the inner need to create. Theories abound on
the why and how of some of the earliest art forms found in caves and carvings
from around the world. Travel back into prehistory and see how sophisticated

Mathematics and Art
A historical tour of mathematical methods used by well know artists, architects
and sculptors in the composition of their art relating to proportion,
perspective and symmetry. View examples of the artists Leonardo De Vinci,

Art Glass: How and When Did It Become
High Art?
Enjoy the beauty of glass from Murano,
Steuben, Tiffany and paperweights from France. Learn about the birth
of modern art glass in Toledo with Harvey Lettleton and Dominic
Lubine and their students Chihuly and Marquis. This presentation
will include examples of glass displayed in museums and galleries

Rembrandt and Dutch Art: More than Meets the Eye!
A study of how Dutch art works on more than one level of meaning and the way it
was understood and appreciated by the Dutch during the 16th and 17th centuries:
a look through a window on the Dutch world during the period in terms of social,
political and artistic themes. (A slide presentation of art, history,
and culture — 45-60 minutes with
discussion.)
Gardens: Historical Views
Come take a visual stroll through
the Pleasure Gardens of Greece and Rome, Islamic gardens of Persia,
Italian Renaissance gardens, French gardens of Versailles and other
gardens throughout history. The influence of art, philosophy and
personal expression on “man’s concept of what a garden should be”

The Harlem Renaissance
The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920's was a time of intense creativity on the
part of African Americans. In this talk, we look at the visual artists of that
period and discover the major contribution made by them to the American art
scene. We see how, for the first time, these artists used Black imagery to laud
their people, their culture, and their history. The impact they had on the
African American artists who came after them is inspiring. (A slide

Art of India
Take a fascinating journey across the ocean and view approximately 5000 years of
Indian art. India is one of the oldest and most complex and enduring
cultures on earth. India is Hindu, which is both a religion and a way of life.
But India has also given birth to two religions – Buddhism and Jainism. Islam
and the West have also shared in India’s long history. Learn how all of these

What is so American about American Art?
This is an historical overview of what, when, where and how American artists
have depicted America and Americans since the early European settler’s first

The March of the Ism’s
This talk connects the dots between the early Pleine Aire movements and
Modernism. The talk underscores the idea that art is not created in a vacuum and
that each “ism” has a cause and effect on another “ism”. (A slide presentation

French Impressionism: A Fresh Perspective
An in depth look at the work of the French Impressionists and how their art
evolved and gained the momentum that made one of the best recognized but least

Western Art from Real to Reel
A look at the development of the old west and the art that depicts it;
factually, fictionally, and the various shades of gray somewhere in between.

History in a Jewelry Box
This is a two screen two projector slide presentation on the history of the
decorative art form of jewelry for those who have some knowledge of art history.
We explore why we self-adorn and how jewelry connects to the master artworks of

Edward Hopper: More than Lighthouse
This talk explores the art of Edward
hopper, famous 20th Century painter known to the public as a painter
of the northeast. His art and his personality are often
misunderstood. This talk is about both the man and his art and why
he has become popular again in the 21st Century. (A slide
presentation of a specific artist.)
Palettes of Fabric
The history of America and the history of Arizona are both depicted and
preserved in the stories told in quilts. This colorful talk uses information
from a quilt study done in 1984, which appeared in the book Grand Endeavors.
Some artists use palettes of oil paint or watercolor, other artists use a
palette of fabric to create their art. (A digital presentation on Arizona, American history,

The Wit and Whimsy of Alexander Calder
This talk explores the art and life of
Alexander Calder, abstract kinetic artist, most famous for inventing
the mobile. He was a prolific artist who was also famous for his
sculptures, paintings, lithographs and tapestry and carpet design.
His life and the major influences on his development as an artist
will be discussed. (A digital presentation on art, architecture,
sculpture, and textiles.)
Bring On the Women
Women have been involved in photography since its beginning in 1837. They were
not just wives and assistants to their photographer husbands; they were behind
the camera too. The images they left and the stories about them call attention
to their contributions and importance to the history of photography. This is a
forty-five to sixty minute presentation. (A digital presentation of art, photography, science,

The History of Photography
Although the history of photography is less than 175 years, it is full of
fascinating people, dedicated artists, and technologists. Learn about the
struggles that photographers had for artistic recognition and how photography
influenced our knowledge of the world. Also discover some of today's trends.
