PRESCOTT ART DOCENTS PROGRAMS
Docents in the Art Room
Docents assist art teachers at individual schools, help
prepare materials, work with students and mount artwork for art shows.

Masterpiece Program
Prescott Art Docents involve
children in a discussion of selected reproductions of masterpieces each
month, including techniques the artist uses to communicate with the viewer;
social and historical background information; and interesting facts about
the artist.
A masterpiece reproduction is left in the classroom to be enjoyed and then exchanged the next month for another masterpiece.
Approximately 50 classrooms are visited by Masterpiece Docents on average of 7 times per year.
Youth Speakers Bureau
Youth Speakers Bureau Docents prepare slide
presentations on themes related to school curriculum and grade level
interest. These well researched talks, based on the Arizona Visual
Arts Standards, give children many ways to view and talk about art.
Appropriate objects are often brought to illustrate the art on the screen.
Visits to classrooms coincide with teachers' requests, and the same
presentations may be given at many different schools in the Tri-City area.
Approximately 200 classroom visits averaging 28 children per visit take
place each year. At present, 25 different talks and special multimedia
presentations are available to classroom teachers.
Yavapai County Art for Teens
(YCAT)
Some of the Prescott Art Docents are specifically
trained to work with teens through orientations, mentoring, continuing
education workshops and meetings with professionals in the field.
YCAT Docents provide a hands-on art experience to certain at-risk youth
groups to help them discover creative ways of expressing themselves. The
emphasis is on understanding and appreciating different ways of seeing.
YCAT Docents are currently collaborating with the Yavapai County Juvenile
Detention Center in Prescott, Yavapai County High School in Prescott Valley,
and the Yavapai County Big Brothers / Big Sisters Program.
Art in June
Docents lead an art presentation, discussion, and
hands-on related project for 4 Mondays in June at the Prescott Library.
Students from all local communities are invited.

Art in June
It can't come too soon.
How I swoon for Art in June!
As that summer month is nearing,
It's time to think about volunteering.
So sign up for one Monday or even all four.
It's guaranteed fun, that is for sure!
Art in June 2008 is already underway! Docents will provide Monday morning art programs to community children (those entering 1st through 5th grade) on June 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th. The docents team up with the Prescott Public Library and will use their summer reading program theme, "Catch the Reading Bug". Our terrific presenters are Gary Melvin, Mary Ann Billings, Christina Brooks, and Joyce Haas. Children will be learning everything from drawing cartoon bugs to making mosiac insects and butterflies. So we have a theme, presenters, and finally, we need HELPERS for each Monday. After reading this poem, I know you will want to volunteer to make this another spectacular summer to remember!
Art to Take Home
Docents find and prepare small art reproductions for students to share at home.
Art Day
Docents select one special school to give Masterpiece and
Speakers Bureau presentations all day. This year it will be called MUSEUM
DAY and will feature presentations not only by the Prescott Art Docents but also
by docents from the Smoki, the Phippen, and Sharlott Hall museums.
Music Start
Docents plan presentations related to music with hands-on art projects
that are held at a local summer program for students.
