Docent Trainee GraduationGET STARTED.  From the first month, docent trainees are prepared and coached on how to research and give a talk.  They are given an advisor to help them through the process and to offer guidance as needed.  Other docents are delighted to encourage and assist in any way they can if asked.  Graduation talks are given usually in March or December.  Trainees may choose to graduate in 7 months time or may take up to 2 years if needed.

JOIN PAD!  A docent trainee first joins Prescott Art Docents by paying a membership fee of $30.  Docent trainees also purchase our training notebook and our textbook, “A History of Western Art” by Laurie Schneider Adams.  Then they are off to a new adventure!  Training docents choose one question to answer at home each week from the reading assignments.

ART HISTORY TRAINING.  Prescott Art Docents' training program lasts seven months and provides an in depth art history background with practical applications.  September begins with orientations, two workshops in The Language of Art, and a slide presentation on prehistoric art.  Every major art movement follows. Our training lecturers are very knowledgeable, interesting, and model the techniques for involving the audience in the art.  April ends with modern and contemporary art and several workshops on how to go into the classroom and make it exciting and beneficial for students.

MONDAY MORNING SCHEDULE.  The main requirement for docent trainees is to reserve Monday mornings for training from 8:30 – 10:00, enjoy hospitality time with all the docents in the art gallery from 10-10:30, and attend the enrichment art presentations in the PFAA theater from 10:30-11:45 with our guest speakers.  Speakers include artists, curators, art critics, art professors, and knowledgeable docents from the Phoenix Art Museum.  So from 8:30 to 11:45, training docents plan to spend Monday mornings with Prescott Art Docents!
